MS;\">Tout \u00c9tat est \u00e9videmment une association ; et toute association ne se forme qu'en vue de quelque bien, puisque les hommes, quels qu'ils soient, ne font jamais rien qu'en vue de ce qui leur para\u00eet \u00eatre bon. \u00c9videmment toutes les associations visent \u00e0 un bien d'une certaine esp\u00e8ce, et le plus important de tous les biens doit \u00eatre l'objet de la plus importante des associations, de celle qui renferme toutes les autres ; et celle-l\u00e0, on la nomme pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment \u00c9tat et association politique.<br \/><\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial Unicode MS;\">\u00a7 2. Des auteurs n'ont donc pas raison d'avancer que les caract\u00e8res de roi, de magistrat, de p\u00e8re de famille, et de ma\u00eetre, se confondent. C'est supposer qu'entre chacun d'eux toute la diff\u00e9rence est du plus au moins, sans \u00eatre sp\u00e9cifique ; qu'ainsi un petit nombre d'administr\u00e9s constitueraient le ma\u00eetre ; un nombre plus grand, le p\u00e8re de famille ; un plus grand encore, le magistrat ou le roi ; c'est supposer qu'une grande famille est absolument un petit \u00c9tat. Ces auteurs ajoutent, en ce qui concerne le magistrat et le roi, que le pouvoir de l'un est personnel et ind\u00e9pendant ; et que l'autre, pour me servir des d\u00e9finitions m\u00eames de leur pr\u00e9tendue science, est en partie chef et en partie sujet. \u00a7 3.
